What is a group oil purchase scheme?

It couldn't be simpler. You add everybody's required volume together to get a total volume and that's the amount the quote is based on. If you can get 3-4 oil users together savings can be in the region of 2p per litre or more. With even more oil users, savings can be up to 5p a litre based on the total quantity. On an individuals 500ltr order this could be as much as a £30 saving, plus only one person needs to locate the best oil price available on ordering day.

The advantages seem simple, less tanker deliveries around the village, reduced fuel pollution as a result, reduced costs due to bulk ordering, ability to shop around for the best price, only one person having to ring suppliers, etc.

The downside is that ordering occurs only at certain times, so it may take a while for everyone to get in sync.

Customers will still be invoiced directly and only order the amount of fuel they need.

The group savings function allows us to combine our total volume in order to make bulk savings. It seems really simple and could be stretched to allow neighbouring villages to join forces to make even greater savings.

The details of how it works.

1. Buyers contact Bob Screen, the village co-ordinator, by phone or email with their order in litres, preferably with 2 weeks notice to cater for holidays etc.

2. Bob will use the combined order to get the best price and notify you of the supplier and delivery date.

3. The supplier will probably be Knutsford Domestic Oil Co.because they usually undercut or match the lowest quoted price. (01565 634488 - Contact Sue and quote Little Leigh Oil Group). If you haven't done so already, you will need to give them your name and address and any abnormal delivery requirements.

4. If the supplier is changed to get a better price Bob will notify you so that you can give the same details to them prior to delivery.

5. Bob will notify you of the price and proposed delivery date.

Note that the oil will be 28sec and VAT of 5% is added to the bill.

The next purchase will be mid January 2010. Please notify Bob with the quantity required early in the month of January.
