  • Out & About in Little Leigh

The following is taken from the Cheshire Public Rights of Way Unit. (PROW).

You are welcome to enjoy exploring Little Leigh on foot, horseback or by bike. You will find a network of country lanes set in mixed farming landscape and, typical of many parishes in Cheshire, you are never far from water.

A map shows the entire road and path network within the parish and beyond. Any path problems should be reported to the Countryside Management Service.

    Public Rights of Way
A public right of way is a route which members of the public may use at any time. You may take a pram, pushair or wheelchair along any right of way although it may not be practicable to do so.

    • Public footpaths are for walkers only. They are often waymarked with yellow arrows.
    • Public bridleways are for walkers, horseriders and cyclists. They are waymarked with blue arrows.
    • 'Byways open to all traffic' (or 'BOATs') are vehicle routes which are mainly used by walkers, horseriders and cyclists. They may be waymarked with red arrows.
    • 'Roads used as public paths' (or 'RUPPs') are similar to bridleways. Some RUPPS are also available for vehicles - seek local guidance. They are sometimes waymarked with black & white arrows.
    • Permissive footpaths or bridleways are not public rights of way but routes which the landowner allows the public to use. This permission may be withdrawn. They are sometimes waymarked with white arrows.

    Access for people with disabilities
Cheshire County County and Little Leigh Parish Council have worked to remove a number of stiles whilst others have been replaced with kissing gates.

    Dogs
You can take a dog along any right of way but you should keep it on a lead or otherwise under close control, especially in the presence of farm animals. Please don't let it foul the paths or fields.
